Maker of Hand Crafted Hammered Dulcimers
The UL400 was designed in 2004 after lengthy discussions with the 2003 National Hammered Dulcimer Champion. This instrument is the only instrument with a Spruce top in the Mike Huddleson Stringed Instrument line of products. This instrument has 15 Treble and 15 Bass courses of 2 strings per course. This gives the player over 3-1/2 octaves from a D below middle C, to the D# two octaves above middle C. In addition, there is a C, one octave below middle C, and a G and A octave below the low G and A on the Bass bridge. With the two additional chromatic bridges, this instrument is fully chromatic from top to bottom. The front and back rails are select Hard Maple, with pin blocks and internal bracing from Maple also. The back is laminated Birch, with a cut-out hand hole for easy carrying, and both a tripod and monolog fittings. The top is Sitka Spruce, finished in its natural color. The entire instrument is finished with 5 coats of hand rubbed lacquer. The instrument comes with a ½” padded cordora case, tuning wrench, tuning chart, and a set of double sided hammers.
